Women’s Writing Circles
Bringing Poems to Life
with Mary Ann Moore
“Poetry is the content of our daily life,” the late Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh once said. Let poetry be your expression in your daily tasks.
I look forward to celebrating the many gifts of poetry in two women’s writing circles in May on Zoom and hope you can join me for one or both: Monday, May 11 and/or Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Whether you are new to the practice or a seasoned poet, reading and writing poetry is a praise practice that can illuminate the sacred in the ordinary. Poems can contain small fictions, arrive as gifts, be surprisingly prescient at times, honour a person, place or event, and always serves as your own way of embracing the richness of life.
Wherever our ancestors lived, they would have gathered around the fire, outdoors or in their kitchens, to honour the seasons, including the seasons of their lives. Especially during these turbulent times, the circle is calling: a place to be seen, and heard, and to be amazed at what comes out of the stillness.
Together, we’ll create a sacred ceremony of writing, sharing and listening to yourself and others. Each participant is respected for their presence and contributions. The circle is an opportunity to acknowledge who you are, what you’ve done, and what you’d like to do.
While writing is usually a solitary practice, together we will become writing companions opening ourselves to delights and surprises while exploring the many gifts of poetry. No previous writing experience is necessary, just the desire to explore your rich lived experience and embrace the fullness of the stories from your life.

From "A Place of Attention" by Mary Ann Moore
There will be dark days – today though,
is all about the dance, how light creates
shadow, how a floor become water,
how magical it is to be still. We’re as
at home as we’ll ever be.
from Mending, poems by Mary Ann Moore
Intent
- To provide a safe place for people to tell their stories.
- To find the still centre of ourselves and of the circle.
- To write what has heart and meaning for us.
- To realize our role as leaders in a circle of leaders.
- To remember the divine feminine and
embrace our female and male teachers. - To become a community of peers
slowing down to a natural rhythm
