writing
your own book circle
Here's an idea: invite some friends to a book circle. Tell them what book to buy at their independent book store or borrow from the library. Read the book and then, together, share your reactions. Take turns reading portions from the book.

Pick a sentence at random from the book and write together for 15 minutes. Share what you've written in a non-judgmental atmosphere of acceptance.

Other Ideas

Invite the author of the selected book to join you. Some publishers offer this service as well as reading guidelines for the book.

Each bring a different book to your book circle and tell what you loved, what you didn't. Read a passage out loud.

Not only are you helping to promote the enjoyment of the written word, you are affirmed in your own knowledge and gaining inspiration for the telling of your own story.
